As an artist it's not my habit to endorse any product or service. I might give praise to products and services, but it's not often I come across something that I'm so absolutely in love with that I'll say: Yes! I recommend this product. [My recommendations are never meant to be endorsements of others' satisfaction but when I do give one it means I haven't been disappointed.] Such is the case with Tiny Tile Mosaics.
When I began looking for materials to express my mandala designs, I searched locally in the craft stores where I live. Not finding what I wanted, I searched on the internet. And searched. And found them at Tiny Tile Mosaics. I specifically wanted ceramic [earthenware] and not glass. Also, I didn't want to have to use clippers to get the size I wanted AND I wanted lots of color options...I know, this was asking a lot! The timing of my search was ordained - for me. Had this been this time last year, I'd have been out of luck. Said Sally Kinsey, owner of Tiny Tile Mosaics, to me in an email yesterday:
-
"...My sister-in-law brought some of the Nano tiles home from a trip to France and I just HAD to have some!!! Unfortunately they were not available in the US, even via the Internet, so I decided to start importing them. This was last December...."
Sally is an artist herself and knew what she had. She lives in South Carolina and as she says, "Believe it or not, it's just me here....oh, and my cat, dog and coffee pot!."
Sally explains on her website that the tiles are "...Manufactured in Morocco, our tiles are made of earthenware, glazed and fired at over 1000 degrees Celsius...." She also explains that they are hand glazed and I, as an artist, find that the imperfections make them that much more valuable...it is always more artistically interesting to have imperfect than perfect.
She also says: "...I was the first to offer them to the public in the USA (Only one other person offers them at this time in the US.) The Nano Thins are the smallest ceramic mosaic tiles produced in the world! They currently come in 56 colors..."
Also, the price is so reasonable that even a starving artist like me can afford to work with them. The tiles come in Mini, Micro and Nano and I use the Micro and Nano size. Sally also offers a triangular-shaped piece as well as tiny ovals...these are awesome. My thanks to Sally.
